Cambridge Open Studios
Cambridge Open Studios started 34 years ago and this is the fourteenth consecutive year that Alison has
participated. There are over 200 artists throughout the Cambridge region who welcome you to their studios
every July. A free guide will be available in June. Alison's studio is number 133.
COS exists for the purpose of promoting the making of original works of art and craft to provide an opportunity for the public to become involved in the arts by meeting artists in their studios, seeing their work and how it is produced. This year Alison has been continuing to develop her printmaking techniques. Inspiration has mainly come from looking at patterns seen in the local Fen landscape and the East Anglian coast. Skeletal winter trees and close-up studies of brambles and seed heads have a particular fascination. Also this year are vibrant rainforest designs inspired by her recent trip to Australia. In her studio she will be demonstrating various printmaking techniques using her etching press; including lino printing, drypoints and collographs. She will also be showing some new atmospheric etchings, a technique she hasn't used for several years. Paintings and prints are available framed or unframed and range in price from £10 to £300. There will be a large selection of hand-made and published cards, wrapping paper and tags for sale from 50p to £3.00, plus a chance to buy the original artworks used for the published designs. There will be a chance to look through her sketchbooks and talk about any aspect of her work. She looks forward to welcoming previous visitors as well as new ones to her studio in Milton. Alison's studio is open on 4th-5th and 11th-12th July from 11am - 6pm.
